Objectives

·   To review existing training programmes and courses in Europe supplying knowledge to post graduate students and young professionals in the fields of hydrogen and fuel cells.
·   To perform a comparative study of training systems in other technology areas, specifically solar, wind, sustainable energy and new technologies.
·   To evaluate the scope, effectiveness, structure and cost of these training systems, and measures in terms of increasing the hiring rate and performance of participants in relevant businesses.

Note:

·   Close cooperation has been agreed on with the companion JU project HyProfessional; both projects will perform the review of existing training programmes jointly.
·   Contact to the SP1-JTI-FCH.2009.5.2 call topic project on Regulator training will be sought.

Description of work

WT 1.1: Review of European Training Programmes for FCH (JUELICH, RISOEDTU)

Review of existing training programmes in Europe supplying knowledge to post graduate students and young professionals in the fields of hydrogen and fuel cells. . The review will in particular be on courses provided by universities related to fuel cells and hydrogen, and on summer schools on the topic.

WT 1.2: Review of European Training Programmes for Renewable Energies, CCS, and Nano-Technologies (JUELICH, RISOEDTU)

Collect information about training activities for post graduates and professionals as an input to effective training activities in fuel cells and hydrogen. The collected information is also for use for a comparative study of training systems in other technology areas, specifically in renewable energies such as solar and wind, sustainable energy, and other 'new technology' areas.

WT 1.3: Effectiveness of Training Measures (JUELICH, RISOEDTU)

Evaluation of the scope, effectiveness, structure and cost of the measures identified in WTs 1.1 & 1.2, including the effectiveness of the existing FCH summer schools in increasing the hiring rate and performance of participants in relevant businesses.

WT 1.4: Summary Conclusions and Curriculum Requirements (JUELICH, RISOEDTU)

Summary and preparation of findings as input into WPs 2, 3, and 4. The summary will include proposed strengthening mechanisms for the training programmes on fuel cells and hydrogen, an evaluation of the possible impact of such mechanisms, and the estimated additional costs.

An analysis of skills required by companies will be prepared in close cooperation with the industry advisory group. Further information will be gathered on employer needs for the level of training and the envisaged future developments in the labour market, including future job patterns.
